I have a question, today for government we had this special speaker and he mentioned that you don't have to pay for the application for the college you want to go to, all you have to do is call them and ask them for a fee waiver, is this true? Because I've never heard this before
I have not heard about calling colleges to ask for fee waivers, but it would surely help if that's the case. From what I know people can only qualify for fee waivers at a certain level of family income. Usually before you submit an application there is an option to see if you qualify for a fee waiver. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI think the Speaker meant you don't have to Pay the Fee Waiver for the School he was "advertising". I forget what school he was representing but, he said you could just call them for that fee waiver to apply.
ReplyDeleteyeah maybe I'm not exactly sure because he did speak really fast

ReplyDeleteI had that same question. I was unsure if just by calling a college they would give you the fee waiver code, as the speaker stated. However, I do not think that it is as simple as that. I found an article online that states that you can be eligible for a fee waiver for a school that uses the Common Application by meeting one of seven requirements such as if you qualify for free or reduced lunches. I do not think that you are able to call the school and ask because thus far filling out college applications I have not been asked for a code but have only been asked if I qualify for a fee waiver and been prompted to select yes or no. Some schools do send fee waivers to students that they want to apply even if they are financially able to. This is the article that lists the ways you can be eligible for a fee waiver: https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/get-in/applying-101/college-application-fee-waivers
