How am I supposed to pick just one subject to major in?
It's hard enough as it is to pick the college you want to apply to, but even harder to pick just one major to be educated in for the next 4 years. Most colleges have over eighty majors so how do I come straight out of high school already knowing which direction I want my life to go in? Coming straight out of high school and jumping into college it hard enough, but now we have to think about all the different majors they have too. This is why many students change their majors over and over again, because they have been pressured or talked into something that sounded good but now its not what they thought. Also, for many majors you have to have taken special classes, so what if I want to go into a field and I cant because I haven't taken those classes. Biology for example is a major where you had to have taken very high levels of math and science in high school, but if you were a student like me you were just barely trying to pass geometry. My point is that not only do people expect you to go to college but they also expect for you to now exactly what you want to do and who you want to be before you get there.

This was a question , I also had because it seems they expect so much for us. They ask for all these hard classes for all these different majors and some of us don't even know our major when we go into college to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI suppose if you think about it like that then it does seem like a lot of pressure. Try to break it down though. First think about your likes and dislikes. Just that means you can cut down like half the majors at a school. If you don't like math and science, I doubt you will enjoy a major like engineering. Second, focus on your strengths. That will help you choose a major that is not a constant struggle for you. If you really want to go into a major, but you aren't so good a part of it you will just have to go through the struggle a little bit and study a little more. You shouldn't give up what you want to do. I know choosing a major can be tough, but you'll find one that clicks and it will be worth it.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard. I don't even know if college is the right choice for me. All I can say is, we'll see when we finish college.
ReplyDeleteYou can just take general education for your first two years and see if you find a liking to any major you might want to do.
ReplyDeleteThere are online quizzes that can help you narrow down what majors would be right for you. You can even explore in college. I hear people change their majors all the time.
