Well it's almost Christmas and New Year’s so I decided to dedicate this blog merely about the holidays. Growing up I never had the chance to celebrate real holidays like normal kids with the Christmas trees, stocking suffers, leaving the cookies out none of that. My mom choose to end my childhood early by telling me Santa wasn’t real, but it was her and my grandparents bringing me gifts when I went to sleep. I understood that he wasn’t real or any of those fairy tale characters early on, but at seventeen now I’ve realized I lost sight of what Christmas was all about because I never had the full on experience of it. This year for the first time in my life I got a Christmas tree with decorations and lights. I finally had the change to feel like a child again getting excited about decorating and going around the tree 20 times just to get the lights on right. Anyway, I chose that holiday’s for me would be about fully embracing the holiday spirit and being grateful for what I have now and not dwelling on what I didn’t have and didn’t do before.
So how does your families celebrate the holidays?
In my family we start off the holidays with the decorations. We go crazy with the Christmas spirit! Then we get ready for all the holiday dinners by assigning everyone a role in the kitchen. Lastly, we open presents and wish for a happy new year.
