My social media pages are my children. I cherish each and everyone of them raising their follower counts and filling them with selfies.I'm extremely attached to my social media pages whether that be Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, man I have them all. They're my little escapes out of reality. My love for social media is nothing short of an addiction.
The social media site I wanted to talk to about is Twitter. You know the one with the little blue bird, yeah that one. You essentially send out little 140 characters blurbs out into the world with no filter whatsoever. It's a pretty liberating experience. Although you would be surprised at how much negativity and bigotry you can fit into 140 characters...ask Donald Trump. Our own president-elect is an internet troll...how ironic.
As an African-American teen girl in the social media scene you just feel like the world is against you no matter how intelligent you are our how talented you are. People will always find something to nitpick or tear you down.
I've received death threats, racist comments, and oh boy you name it I've probably had to deal it. The internet made me a stronger person it taught me how to filter out the negativity and the trolls, because most of the time they're just projecting their own hatred of himself/herself onto you, and it's not worth hanging on to.
Do you think internet trolls have made you a stronger person? Or do you think it's just completely desensitized you from flagrant negativity?
