My Perspective After Food Politics

The new research I found based upon Food Politics angered me more than anything. I say this because there are so many hidden ingredients in our foods and overall many secrets, yet the Food and Drug Administration has not made any drastic changes to help the nation. After, several sources I decided that I would venture out to the grocery store and see for myself if any of the products I bought false advertised. Well, this experiment was not as easy as I thought it would be, however I focused mainly on the small labels and I was shocked to see some of the ingredients that were inside these products. For example, there were some really odd ingredients in these products that I never knew existed. This is when I came to realization that I food companies honestly do not have any shame in some things they are doing. After this paper, I started to gain animosity towards the morals and ethics some of these food companies have. I became really angered after thinking about all their false statements, maybe not all of them do this but the ones that do not prioritize the health of people, instead they care more for the the fast efficient money, rather than the our needs. Overall, my perspective on food politics has changed, but at the end of the day consumers are not going to inspect each label, because they also want fast and cheap products.

  1. hey Susana,
The whole aspect of false labeling and advertising was the thing that bugged me the most too! It's so upsetting to know that food companies choose to withhold or manipulate nutritional information just to make their products easier to sell. I feels like it's impossible to ever have big companies sell genuinely healthy and natural food anymore because it's always about selling the most food possible at the least costly price. I am definitely finding myself looking at nutritional labels more often now when I am at the grocery stores.

  2. Hey Susana, I've been paying a lot more attention to food labels at the grocery store as well! I think it's so crazy that food companies ca basically put whatever label they want on something even if the claim is half true. I feel extremely wary of what I buy in grocery stores now and if I'm not sure what a label means, I'll look it up. I think that all consumers should have the right to know what's in their foods and grocery stores should have lists posted that tell consumers what the labels mean so even if someone isn't particularly educated on the topic, they can still understand what is or isn't going into their foods. However, as you mentioned, this probably still wouldn't solve the issue because people are looking for fast, convenient options.
