My research paper is about the impact of food advertisements on society. The continued rise of childhood obesity is a concerning problem today and food advertisements are just one of the contributing factors. My research is about how businesses target children specifically to get them "hooked" on their product at a young age. My paper will start off with how the businesses are contributing to this problem and then move on to the effects. My body paragraphs will talk about how this is a problem and what is effected by it. I have to find more research on how it really impacts society.
The next step is trying to conclude my research paper. I have to find research on how to fix this problem. People need to see how food advertisements really do have an impact on what we eat and how much we eat. I hope to find in my research a solution to help people. I think that there are many contributing factors to obesity and other health concerns but, finding more research on this topic can help solve this problem. Also, I need to find a way to tie this into politics. I feel like I might get stuck at this point. Should I argue for more government regulation on food advertisements? The government did step in on ending smoking ads on t.v and radio, so should they decrease food ads as well? I think I need to include the role of social media as well. We always see food advertisements, such as seeing a celebrity promoting a food product on social media. I need to find more research on how it could effect us and the problem behind it. The next step for me is finding more research and organizing my research paper in a way that it flows with the argument.
I think it would be hard to argue for government regulation for food commercials. It's easier for the gov. to limit smoking/cigarette commercials, because there is a direct negative effect on your health. with food, it isn't like if you eat a burger once you're going to get heart disease. It's if you overindulge. I think a better way, would maybe be how the government regulates the words and phrases companies can use in commercials to trigger the consumer. Maybe there could be some information there? I also think the social media thing is a good idea, but I see celebrities promoting healthy foods way more than bad ones. A way to fix the problem could be the promotion of healthy foods, rather than unhealthy ones, but I mean who would enforce that? Just my thoughts, I hope I didn't make it more complicated.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be a regulation to the food advertisements but I also think there is a responsibility to the parents to not give their child that food. There are occasions to splurge but in order to provide a child with a healthy life style then they need to decide what to give their children.
