What Has My Research Done For Me?
For my Research Paper I am studying Eating Behaviors in children with ASD.
This is a very intriguing and as something I can apply to my own life having siblings on the spectrum. One of the articles I have read that I felt furthered both my research and understanding towards the subject has been FEEDING PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM by Sowmya Nath ( https://iancommunity.org/ssc/feeding-problems-children-autism). It discusses a mother's experience with her non-verbal child's e.b. and explains the science of it all. Kids with ASD are not just picky, but can have complications with their muscles which would not allow them to eat as easily as someone without ASD. Children may create a strong preference to a certain texture of foods, for my brother its a preference to a small number of foods ( fries and chicken, hot pockets, pistachios). Children with ASD could go days without eating if not given the food of their prefrence. Sometimes we tell Roger he will have to just wait until breakfast if he won't eat dinner and he will either wait or sneak food. We don't ever go through with it though. He usually ends up getting his hot pocket. In my paper I will be discussing the many different ways parents can aid their children's eating behaviors (I.E. behavior therapy, physical therapy, trips to the gastroenterologist, and a restricted diet).
