Since beginning this unit, I've done a lot of thinking about the way I eat and my personal impact on food culture. I think that for myself, and most of America ignorance really is bliss and the less we know about the food system the better, at least until we realize that it's extremely subpar. Even though the reality of our food system is shocking and utterly terrible, we as a society should care more. If every individual became aware of the realities, I think that a real change would be forced upon the food conglomerates running the whole game.
If I were given the opportunity to tell myself one thing four years ago about our food system, I would simply tell myself to stay educated. Now, I feel so silly for not knowing a thing about the backstory of any of the food I eat on a daily basis. It seems wrong that I've gone so long ignoring such a prevalent issue in our society and I think that unless people become educated about the issues our food culture faces, the problem will remain the same. In my opinion, this unit should be extended to all high school classes because the content is so extremely vital to our health as well as our futures.
Same here. Education first.
ReplyDeleteAbout a year ago I remember watching Food Inc. realizing the food we eat has been processed and through so many factories just to eat. I have always known there is something wrong with the food industry but this unit has made me see another view.
